When you are making an argument or trying to support a claim, incorporating statistics, data, or quantitative information will stengthen your research. When you are looking for statistics, you may find the information in any one of the following resources:

• Scholarly articles and books
• Newspapers and magazines
• Databases provided by the government and other institutions
• Reports and analysis published by government agencies

This guide is a starting point for locating statistics. When you are looking for quantitative information to support a hypothesis, think about the type of information. For example, do you want data about:

• A local issue?
• A national trend?
• An international problem?
